The FIVB’s Board of Administration approved official dates for the 2020/21 season that follows the postponement of the Olympic Games from 2020 to 2021, as well as the cancellation of the 2020 Volleyball League of Nations. Apart from including these two events in 2021, the new, updated volleyball calendar (whose parts leaked to the media yesterday) has left the possibility of restarting the 2019/20 national club season as well.
These are updates to the 2020/21 calendar (initial calendar looked like this):
- 2019/20 and 2020/21 national club season
National club season is allowed to start from June 1, 2020, either to complete the 2019/20 season or start the 2020/21 season, which should end no later than April 18, 2021.
- 2021 continental club championship finals
Continental club championship finals are to take place by no later than May 2, 2021.
- 2021 Volleyball Nations League
VNL will be held starting from the second week of May 2021 (either May 7 or May 11, 2021) and ending on June 27, 2021. Italy and China will remain host nations for the finals.
- 2021 continental championships
Continental championships will take place on August 19 – September 19, 2021. Continental confederations are to be responsible for adapting the qualification processes.
