Chinese fans got little satisfaction even though their national team failed to qualify for the Final Four of the 2021 Women’s VNL. The Olympic champion put an end to the USA’s invincibility in the competition. China swept two-time defending VNL winner on the last day of the preliminary stage (Round 15) and ended rival’s 14-game winning streak. However, the team commanded by Karch Kiraly will continue playing the tournament as it secured a semifinal spot earlier, just like Brazil, Japan, and Turkey.

The last day of the preliminary stage marked a farewell of the six long-time Thailand National Team players. A defeat of the Asian side to Italy by a 3-1 today was the last match of the so-called Thai ’Fab Six’, some of which were part of the country’s national team for as many as 20 years: Pleumjit Thinkaow, Wilavan Apinyapong, Nootsara Tomkom, Onuma Sittirak, Malika Kanthong, and Amporn Hyapha.
