Russia, Poland, Brazil, Serbia, Italy, Romania, Turkey and United States advanced to the quarterfinals of the Girls U18 FIVB World Championship.
Russia had no problems in the match against Puerto Rico, while Brazil, after four sets played, achieved victory over Thailand in the Round of 16 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Championship in Durango, Mexico. In the quarterfinals, Russia will face Poland and Brazil will play against Serbia. Poland and Serbia reserved tickets for the quarterfinals, with victories over the Dominican Republic and Peru.
Defending champions, the United States and Romania, advanced to the quarterfinals after dramatic matches in the Round of 16. Both teams, the United States and Romania, beat Argentina and Slovakia 3-2 in sets to advance to the quarterfinals. The United States, which remains undefeated in the tournament after five games, will try to continue their winning streak against Turkey, while Romania will play against Italy in the quarterfinals of the Girls U18 FIVB World Championship. Italy and Turkey advanced to the quarterfinals after a dominant performance over Canada and host Mexico.
The winners of the Round of 16 advanced to the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, while the losers in the round of 16 play-offs will play classification matches, with a similar system of quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, from 9th to 16th place.
