Brazil beat the Czech Republic in their first match of the Women’s World Championship 2022. Yes, the team commanded by Zé Roberto dropped a set in the Pool D opener in Arnhem, the Netherlands, but that can be attributed to the fact that, as a renowned expert stated prior to the match, he and his ladies didn’t have enough information on the rival. Gabriela Guimarães ’Gabi’, a star outside hitter and ’Seleção’ captain, took the initiative in her side’s first game with a game-high 24 points. Caroline Gattaz ’Carol Gattaz’ and Ana Carolina Silva ’Carol’ set up 4 blocks apiece. The opposite Gabriela Orvošová, who had 18 points, top-scored for the Czechs.

The USA was convincing in its first match of the World Champs. The team that’s among the biggest favorites to win the gold medal took to the field and quickly showed Kazakhstan where it belongs. Karch Kiraly’s team recorded a straight-set victory – 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-22) – to set off competition in Pool C in Arnhem. Alexandra Frantti stood out for the Americans with 14 points. Tatyana Nikitina scored 10 for Kazakhstan.
