Prosseco DOC Imoco Conegliano broke the ice in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship 2022. In their debut in the event in Antalya, Turkey, the Italian champions overcame Brazil’s runners-up Dentil Praia Clube 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-21). Daniele Santarelli’s ladies gained immediate access to the semi-finals at the end of a not-very-easy match against rivals whose good individuality didn’t come to the fore to the fullest in the tournament. The Brazilian team didn’t give up until the end, keeping the encounter interesting from start to finish, but suffered its second defeat in as many games in Pool A and went home empty-handed.

The most important protagonist for Imoco was Swede Isabelle Haak, who finished with 24 points. Tainara Santos tallied 14 for Praia. Tomorrow, the ‘Panthers’ will face Turkey’s Eczacıbaşı Dynavit (also qualified to the top 4 after today’s result of Imoco vs. Praia).

The other Turkish representative and Club World Champs titleholder, VakıfBank Spor Kulübü, also found itself in the semi-finals, following a straight-set win over Brazil’s champions, Gerdau Minas. The Belo Horizonte side managed to balance the confrontation for most of the time but ended up defeated by the biggest favorites of the tournament and not clinching a single set. Given that they have one more match to play in Pool B, if they beat Kazakhstan’s Kuanysh Club tomorrow, they’ll advance to the top 4.

Italian opposite Paola Egonu top-scored for VakıfBank with 22 points. Dutch Nika Daalderop made 4 blocks. Priscila Daroit ‘Pri Daroit’ novthed 14 points for Minas. Júlia Kudiess served 4 aces.
