In the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023 in Hong Kong, Turkey and Italy notched impressive victories, further asserting their strength in the tournament.
Defending champions Italy recorded their second victory in the tournament, convincingly overcoming Bulgaria in a straight-set match, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-23). Sylvia Nwakalor stood out with her exceptional performance, scoring 18 points, while Myriam Sylla contributed an additional 10 points. Bulgaria put up a notable fight with Maria Yordanova and Radostina Marinova scoring 12 and 11 points respectively.
In another display of prowess, Turkey started the second week of the tournament with a decisive 3-0 (31-29, 25-21, 25-15) victory over the Netherlands. Ebrar Karakurt was the leading scorer for Turkey with 13 points. She was well supported by teammates Hande Baladin and Eda Erdem, each contributing 11 points to the win. Nika Daalderop stood out for the Netherlands, scoring 12 points. Nova Marring and Indy Baijens also made notable contributions, accumulating 11 and 10 points respectively.
