Day two of the Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL) 2023’s third week, held in Korea and Thailand, brought triumphs for teams from Japan, Brazil, Serbia, and the United States.
In Pool 5, USA overcame Poland in a five-set thriller in Suwon, Korea, boasting an 8-1 win-loss record. Annie Drews and Kelsey Robinson scored 20 points each for the USA, while Polish standout Magdalena Stysiak topped the match with 28 points.
Meanwhile, Serbia claimed a 3-1 victory over China, with Boškovic, Stevanovic, and Popovic leading Serbia’s charge. China’s leading scorers were Yingying Li and team captain Xinyue Yuan.
In Thailand in Pool 6, Japan clinched a five-set win against a resolute Turkey. Sarina Nishida (Koga), Mayu Ishikawa, and Miyu Nagaoka starred for Japan. Turkey’s top contributors were Ebrar Karakurt, Zehra Gunes, and Eda Erdem.
Finally, Brazil emerged victorious from a gruelling five-set match against Italy. Gabi Guimaraes and Rosamaria Montibeller were the key performers for Brazil, while Italy’s Francesca Villani and Sylvia Nwakalor equaled each other with 21 points apiece.
