At the 2023 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Pool 5, hosted in Anaheim, California, a triumphant day was witnessed with victories secured by Argentina, Serbia, and Bulgaria.

In the day’s inaugural match, Argentina, the Tokyo Olympic bronze medalists, booked their place in the VNL 2023 finals by overpowering Germany in a straight-set victory (25-23, 25-18, 25-17). The Argentinian side was led by Luciano Palonsky and Agustin Loser, who amassed 14 and 13 points respectively, while Linus Weber was the most effective German player with 13 points.

The second match showcased Serbia’s resilience and tenacity as they battled it out with Cuba to secure a crucial 3-2 victory (19-25, 25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 15-11). This result bolstered Serbia’s hope for a spot in the finals and their ninth-place standing. Cuba, although threatened by relegation, moved up to 14th place thanks to the point earned in this tightly contested match. Drazen Luburic and Miran Kujundžić led Serbia with 18 and 16 points, while Jesus Herrera was the standout player for Cuba with 30 points.

In the final match of the day, Bulgaria fought fiercely against Iran, ultimately securing a 3-2 win (21-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11). Bulgaria’s victory was propelled by Asparuh Asparuhov, who tallied 23 points and Martin Atanasov, who contributed 18 points. Ali Hajipour emerged as the leading scorer for Iran with 17 points.
