Italy and Poland advanced to the semifinals of the Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2024 in Bangkok. They defeated defending VNL champions Türkiye and Olympic champions USA, respectively, in Friday’s thrilling quarterfinals.
Italy secured a straight-sets victory over the USA (25-21, 25-21, 25-23), capitalizing on American errors and a stellar performance from Paola Egonu, who scored 20 points.
In a nail-biting five-set match, Poland edged out Türkiye (3-2: 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 15-11). Despite a stunning 39-point effort from Melissa Vargas, Poland’s balanced attack, led by Magdalena Stysiak with 17 points, sealed the win. Italy and Poland will face off in the semifinals.
