China and Belgium secured their spots in the semifinals of the FIVB Men’s Challenger Cup 2024 with decisive victories on Thursday in Linyi, China.
China triumphed over Mexico in straight sets, winning 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-23), thanks to a stellar performance by outside hitter Zhang Jingyin, who scored 19 points. Opposite Wang Jingyi also contributed significantly with 13 points. Mexico’s top scorer was opposite Franky Milantony with 11 points.
In a thrilling five-set match, Belgium defeated Croatia 3-2 (25-20, 25-18, 22-25, 15-25, 15-13). Outside hitter Seppe Rotty led the Belgian team with 24 points, while Ferre Reggers and Pierre Perrin added 18 and 15 points, respectively. Croatia’s standout player was opposite Petar Đirlić, who scored 23 points.
China now awaits the winner of the Qatar vs. Egypt match, while Belgium will face either Ukraine or Chile in the semifinals, with both determining matches scheduled for Friday.
