The semifinals of the FIVB Men’s Challenger Cup 2024 are set, with Egypt and Ukraine advancing after their victories in the quarterfinals held in Linyi, China. The tournament’s winners will secure a spot in the Volleyball Nations League 2025.
Egypt will face the hosts, China while Ukraine will compete against Belgium on Saturday.
Egypt edged closer to VNL 2025 qualification with a 3-2 victory over Qatar (25-16, 23-25, 20-25, 15-13). Mohamed Issa led the Egyptians with 20 points, supported by Mohamed Dola and Reda Haikal, who scored 17 and 16 points respectively. Qatar’s Youssef Oughlaf and Mohamed Waleed put up a strong fight, scoring 25 and 20 points each.
Ukraine overcame a tough start to defeat Chile 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19). Viktor Shapoval was the top scorer for Ukraine with 14 points, while Yevhenii Kisiliuk and Oleksandr Koval contributed 12 points each. Chile’s Vicente Parraguirre led all scorers with 16 points.
