Vietnam will compete against Czechia in the second semifinal of the Women’s 2024 FIVB Challenger Cup this Saturday. Following Belgium and Puerto Rico’s advancement to the semifinals in Manila, Vietnam and Czechia secured their spots by defeating the Philippines and Argentina, respectively, in their quarterfinal matches.
At the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, despite the strong support from the home crowd, the Philippines couldn’t overcome Vietnam, who claimed a decisive 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-22, 25-21). Led by outside hitter Thi Bich Tuyen Nguyen, Vietnam excelled in all scoring areas. Tuyen contributed an impressive 30 points. For the Philippines, Cherry Ann Rondina scored 15 points, while Angel Anne Canino added 12 points.
Earlier, Czechia swept Argentina in straight sets, 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-16). Czechia’s captain, Michaela Mlejnkova, led with 14 points, including 13 spike kills and a block. Gabriela Orvosova added 12 points, and Helena Havelkova contributed 10 points. For Argentina, middle blocker Candelaria Herrera reached double digits with 10 points.
