Italy continued their perfect run in the 2025 Volleyball Nations League, defeating the USA 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 28-26) in the quarterfinals at Atlas Arena. The reigning Olympic champions have now won 13 matches straight this season and 27 official games in a row—setting a new all-time record.
Led by Paola Egonu’s 21 points and supported by Ekaterina Antropova’s clutch performance off the bench, Italy maintained control throughout the match. Despite a late push by the Americans in the third set, the Italians held firm to secure victory and a spot in the semifinals.
Coach Julio Velasco acknowledged the team’s mental strength:
“We didn’t play our best, especially in attack, but still won 3-0. That shows the depth and resilience of this group.”
