
The action in the Volleyball Nations League 2025 continues to heat up as Italy and the Dominican Republic claimed wins on opposite sides of the globe.
In Rio de Janeiro, Italy’s dominance was on full display as they swept South Korea 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-17), making it three wins from three in Pool 2. Paola Egonu returned to the starting lineup with authority, notching a match-high 16 points. The Azzurre played with sharp discipline and depth, seamlessly integrating fresh rotations while keeping momentum high. Head coach Julio Velasco’s side now looks ahead to a blockbuster showdown with Brazil.
Meanwhile in Ottawa, fans were treated to a five-set rollercoaster. The Dominican Republic edged out the Netherlands in a nail-biting 3-2 battle (22-25, 25-19, 28-26, 22-25, 15-13). The match swung wildly as the Dutch rallied from an early lead to a 2-1 deficit, only to force a fifth set. Ultimately, the Dominicans held their nerve in the final stretch, securing a important victory in Pool 1.
