Paola Egonu returned to the starting lineup with authority, notching a match-high 16 points. The Azzurre played with sharp discipline and depth, seamlessly integrating fresh rotations while keeping momentum high. Head coach Julio Velasco’s side now looks ahead to a blockbuster showdown with Brazil.
Meanwhile in Ottawa, fans were treated to a five-set rollercoaster. The Dominican Republic edged out the Netherlands in a nail-biting 3-2 battle (22-25, 25-19, 28-26, 22-25, 15-13). The match swung wildly as the Dutch rallied from an early lead to a 2-1 deficit, only to force a fifth set. Ultimately, the Dominicans held their nerve in the final stretch, securing a important victory in Pool 1.
