Croatia & Serbia – As the third day of pool play wrapped up at the FIVB Girls’ U19 World Championship, several teams secured their spots in the eighthfinals.
China and Japan delivered one of the day’s closest matches in Pool D. The two teams went the distance in a five-set battle, with China narrowly taking the win. A key factor was their blocking—20 kill blocks as a team, including six from Guo Zhongnan. Huang Yuexin, China’s captain, added 15 points. Despite the loss, Japan’s Minami Kessoku and Rion Chuganji each finished with 19 points, keeping their side in the match until the final set.
In Pool A, co-hosts Croatia continued their strong form. Their 3-1 win over Canada keeps them undefeated in the competition. Once again, 16-year-old Asja Zolota was Croatia’s top scorer, finishing with 23 points. Her consistency and ability to deliver under pressure have played a big role in Croatia’s success so far.
With two days of pool matches left, Croatia, China, Japan, Brazil, Italy, Poland, and Chinese Taipei have all guaranteed a place in the next round.
Other matches on included:
- Brazil defeating Argentina in straight sets, remaining perfect in Pool B.
- Serbia coming from behind to win 3-2 against Puerto Rico, led by Mia Ciric’s 17 points.
