Cuba pulled off a stunning upset in Gdańsk, defeating world No.1 Poland 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 26-24) in front of over 9,000 home fans in the Volleyball Nations League 2025. The win keeps Cuba’s Finals hopes alive and marks their first victory over Poland since 2010.
Marlon Yant led the charge with 18 points, while teammates Jose Masso, Miguel Ángel López, and Javier Concepción also hit double digits. Concepción said, “We’re happy with the win, but our journey isn’t over.” Cuba now sits seventh with 18 points, just behind France and Ukraine. Poland, with seven wins, remains fourth.
In other results, Iran swept China 3-0, and Slovenia beat the Netherlands to stay just one point behind Cuba in eighth.
