VNL W: Poland Outlasts Belgium in Nations League Opener

Poland opened their 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Belgium in Nanjing, China, winning a tense five-set battle 25-20, 22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-13.

Julia Szczurowska led Poland with 25 points, while Monika Lampkowska added 15. Martyna Łukasik and Anna Obiała also made significant contributions with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Belgium was powered by Britt Herbots, who finished with a match-high 30 points. Pauline Martin added 22 points and Nathalie Lemmens chipped in with 12.

Poland held the advantage in attack throughout the match, but Belgium proved stronger at the net, recording 12 blocks to Poland’s nine, and also edged the serving battle 6-5. The Polish side committed more unforced errors but responded well in crucial moments, particularly in the deciding fifth set.

After splitting the opening four sets, Poland held their nerve in the tiebreak to secure first win of the tournament and start the Nations League campaign on a positive note.
