Canada delivered a landmark performance on home soil by defeating the United States in straight sets at Centre Vidéotron in Quebec City.
Backed by a passionate crowd at Centre Vidéotron, Canada swept the Olympic silver medalists 25-22, 25-22, 30-28 to earn their first win of the 2026 VNL campaign.
The hosts saved their best for the final set, rallying from a 20-14 deficit before edging the Americans in a dramatic finish to complete the upset.
Kiera Van Ryk led Canada’s attack with 17 points, while Alexa Gray added 14 and captain Emily Maglio contributed 13. Canada also held the advantage in kills, blocks and serve aces throughout the match.
“This is the first time we’ve beaten the United States since I’ve been with the national team, and to do it at home makes it incredibly special,” said Maglio.
Canada head coach Giovanni Guidetti praised his team’s response after its opening-match loss to Germany.
“Today we were a completely different team,” Guidetti said. “We were organized, confident and never stopped believing, even when we were trailing late in the third set.”
The loss dropped the United States to 1-1 in the tournament. Jordan Thompson and Simone Lee-Wank led the American scoring with nine points each.
