Omaha Supernovas to Face LA Thunder in John Cook Invitational

by WoV

Nebraska’s volleyball legacy will take center stage as Major League Volleyball (MLV) brings professional competition to Lincoln for the inaugural John Cook Invitational, featuring the Omaha Supernovas against the Los Angeles Thunder on February 28, 2027.

The matchup, presented by JUNKLESS, will take place at John Cook Arena on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, honoring the influential former Nebraska coach while celebrating the state’s deep-rooted volleyball tradition.

The event will feature the Supernovas, who have led professional volleyball worldwide in attendance for two consecutive seasons, against the Thunder, one of MLV’s newest franchises.

MLV Commissioner Jaime Weston said the invitational reflects the league’s ambition to elevate women’s professional volleyball while recognizing the communities that have fueled its growth.

Cook, now co-owner and general manager of the Supernovas, emphasized the importance of connecting Nebraska’s volleyball heritage with the sport’s professional future.

The announcement comes as MLV prepares to expand to 12 teams for its fourth season in 2027.

Ticket presales begin November 4, followed by general sales on November 12. Broadcast details will be announced later.
