The „Azzurri“ prevailed in a highly intense encounter against France in Pool I1 of the Group 1, in Antwerp, Belgium.

Italy was forced to make a return to the match twice before claiming a gasping tie-break against the team who already secured its berth in the Final Six but did not want to give way to the rivals, 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 16-14).

Luigi Randazzo and Luca Vettori saw off France with 14 points each while rising star Stéphen Boyer and Thibault Rossard both collected 19 for the „Team Yavbou“.

In order to advance to the Final Six in Brazil, Italy cannot allow theselves to suffer a single defeat in the remaining two games of the Preliminary Round – against Belgium and Canada – but even then, they are not certain contestans there.
