WCH 2018 M: Belgium, Spain and Estonia opened European qualifiers with wins

Only one ticket left in Europe for the FIVB Men’s World Championship 2018 and for now, we are not sure who will take it.

The third and last stage of the European qualification started in Kortrijk and host Belgium, Spain and Estonia scored the first wins. 

In the first match on an opening day, Belgium outplayed Slovakia 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-15) and Bram van den Dries was the top scorer with 17 points.

After that, in the second match, Spain surprised Germany with a victory of 3-1 (25-17, 24-26, 25-22, 25-19). Augusto Colito scored 21 points to lead Spain but Germany’s Simon Hirsch with 23 points was top scorer of the game.

Estonia, winners of FIVB World League Group wrapped up the day in Kortrijk with a 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23) win over Belarus.

Just to remind you, the round-robin system is at the tournament and only the winner will qualify to World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria.

Next to co-hosts Italy and Bulgaria and reigning world champions Poland, the European contingent for the 2018 World Championship already includes France, The Netherlands, Slovenia, Russia, Serbia and Finland.
