WCH U18 W: Italian girls defend title, first-ever medal for Dominican Republic

Italy became only the second national team to defend the title in the FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship.

In the finals of the 2017 tournament in Rosário and Santa Fe, Argentina, the Italian National Team prevailed against the Dominican Republic by a 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-12, 25-20).

The opposite Terry Enweonwu from Club Italia Crai (relegated to Italian Division 2) and receiver Elena Pietrini from Volleyrò Casal de Pazzi (Division 3) topped Italy with 17 points each. Both earned individual awards: Pietrini was recognized MVP while Enweonwu was awarded Best Opposite Spiker.

Madeline Guillén made 25 points for the Dominican Republic, who won their first-ever medal in this age category for the girls.
