VNL W: Will USA remain at the top after Week 3? Will Argentina score their first win?

by WoV

The Week 3 of the 2018 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League is in front of us and we can expect some interesting games in Netherlands, Serbia, Thailand and China.

USA

USA

In Pool 9 in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands will host Brazil, Korea and Poland. Derby in this pool for this week will be between the host team and Brazil who are currently both with only one defeat. The match is scheduled for the last day of the Week 3, on Thursday, May 31 at 19:30 by local time.

On the other side, Korea is in a row and we will see what the result will be at the end of their match against famous “yellow-green” team. Their leader Kim Yeon-Koung is currently the second-best scorer of the competition with 130 points while Polish attacker Malwina Smarzek is on the top with 159 points.

Brazil

In Kraljevo, Serbia will be the hosts of Pool 10 in which are Belgium, Russia and Turkey. Until now, the European champions showed that they are in good condition and for now they have only one loss from Week 1 when they played against Brazil. After that match, they scored four wins in a row. Tijana Bošković is officially the best spiker on VNL with 50,59% in attack (98 points).

On the home soil, the most important match will be against Turkey. Teams will play the Balkan derby and that match is also scheduled for Thursday. Both teams have a score in VNL 5-1.

Pool 11 will be played in Bangkok, Thailand will host the Dominican Republic, Germany and USA. After two weeks USA are on the top of the standings with 16 points with the score of win/loss (5-1). They had a bad day in the second match of the Week 1 against Turkey who defeated the team of Kiraly in the tie-break. After that, they played like before. Will Germany or Dominican girls come to their second wins at the competition? Will Thai spectators help their team to jump on the better position at the standing after this week?

Interesting, Louisa Lippmann from Germany and Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez are on the third and fourth place of the best scorers in VNL  with 114 and 106 points and their team have only one win!

Pool 12 will be played in Hong Kong and the host team is Argentina although China took the organization from them. Argentina are still on the bottom without a win after six matches while China will play the third weekend at home and in the next week too. After six matches their score is 3-3. Olympic champions until now played without Zhu Ting and for this week she will be in the roster.

The other two teams are Italy and Japan and both teams are with only 2 wins. Italy won the last two games over Germany and Korea while Japan outplayed Belgium and Germany.
