Although they barely passed the regular stage of the competition (5th), they came to Nanjing with the happy thoughts that they managed to secure the final tournament. That confirmed the coach Giovanni Guidetti at the beginning of the Final Six:
“We are absolutely happy and proud of our journey to deserve the privilege to be here in the Finals. We will play the Finals like we have done all throughout the VNL, just thinking about point after point, with the drive to become better.”
And they really played for each point. The first, they had very hard games in the pool against USA and Serbia (5 sets both matches) and then in the semifinal just crushed Brazil in straight sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-22).
O.K. maybe it wasn’t easy but Turkey finished the match in only three sets!
Meryem Boz (14) and Hande Baladin (14) with middle blockers Eda Erdem Dundar (11) and Zehra Gunes (10) led the team. They played like one and that was the key for the victory.
On the Brazilian side, Tandara Alves Caixeta scored 20 points while Gabriela Braga Guimaraes 14 points and they were the only players who scored double effect. The next are Adenizia Da Silva and Bia with only 4 points. It seems that Brazil just had a bad day.
