The French Men’s National Team is the main favorite to win the gold medal in the upcoming 2017 CEV Volleyball European Championship in Poland (August 24 – September 3) but their odds would decrease if Earvin Ngapeth would not be able to play…

Laurent Tillie, the head coach of France, was not satisfied with the way his team played and, above all, behaved in the matches of the “Wagner Memorial”. The “Team Yavbou” finished third, with a 2-1 record. France played the tournament in Poland without their main star Earvin Ngapeth, who was injured, and the fans in the country are worried if he will recover for the EuroVolley.

“The situation with him is problematic although the examinations were reassuring. When it is a back injury it can be a hernia or something more serious. Earvin must take care, but he will go (to the European Championship). His absence is harmful to the team who is unable to train in the competition mode, but also for him because he could not be on the court. Now, we can’t find speed, hits, emotions, reading of the game, and the pressure… All this inevitably lacks,” Tillie said.

This all means that Ngapeth likely will not be able to help France the way he is capable of. At least, at the very beginning of the EuroVolley…

N’gapeth is a talented and spectacular player but the most important player of the team is Toniutti.
