FRA M: Tours and Chaumont prevail in tiebreakers to triumphantly open playoff semis

Tours Volley-Ball and Chaumont Volley-Ball 52 Haute-Marne are one step closer to advancing to the 2017/18 French men’s volleyball championship Ligue A playoff finals.

The top-seed Tours Volley-Ball scored a home hard-fought win against No.4 GFC Ajaccio Volley-Ball in Game 1 of the best-of-three 2017/18 Ligue A playoff semifinals, only after tie-break, partially 25-18, 25-23, 20-25, 12-25, 15-12.

The Latvian Hermans Egleskalns and Cameroonian Nathan Wounembaina scored 19 points apiece for Tours, while Serbian Konstantin Čupković served 5 aces. The Bulgarian Svetoslav Gotsev contributed with 73% attack (8/11, blocked once). In Ajaccio, the Argentinean José Luis González delivered 20 points, including 4 aces. The Canadian Brett Dailey made 6 kill blocks.

A tie-break had to decide on the winners of Game 1 in the other semifinal as well. No.2 Chaumont Volley-Ball 52 Haute-Marne beat No.3 Paris Volley by a 3-2 thanks to 23 points from Stéphen Boyer. The Dutchman Wouter ter Maat scored 20 points for Paris, including 3 aces and 2 kill blocks. Julien Lavagne made 79% (14 digs, 71% excellent).
