GER M: Friedrichshafen secure top seed in photo finish, squeezing AlpenVolleys into No.2

The last round of the 2018/19 German men’s volleyball championship regular season determined the top three seeds for the playoffs.

VfB Friedrichshafen defeated SVG Lüneburg by a 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-20) in Round 22 to retain the first place in the 1. Bundesliga Männer 2018/19 for the playoff quarterfinals. Knowing that the next two sides that followed current vice-champions in the regular season standings prior to this round, HYPO TIROL AlpenVolleys Haching, and BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys, also noted victories, the order of the top three teams did not change.

1. Bundesliga Männer 2018/19 – Round 22:

Volleyball Bisons Bühl – BERLIN RECYCLING Volleys 0-3 (23-25, 20-25, 22-25)

SWD powervolleys DÜREN – HELIOS GRIZZLYS Giesen 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 27-25)

SVG Lüneburg – VfB Friedrichshafen 1-3 (25-22, 24-26, 20-25, 20-25)

Netzhoppers SolWo Königspark KW – United Volleys Frankfurt 0-3 (16-25, 24-26, 29-31)

TV Rottenburg – WWK Volleys Herrsching 2-3 (25-22, 23-25, 27-25, 23-25, 9-15)

VCO Berlin – HYPO TIROL AlpenVolleys Haching 1-3 (22-25, 25-15, 14-25, 19-25)

 

Top three players on Bundesliga MVP rankings in the regular season:

1. Moritz Karlitzek (United Volleys) 8 MVPs (7 gold, 1 silver)

2. Tomáš Kocian (Powervolleys) 10 MVPs (6 gold, 4 silver)

3. Cody Kessel (Lüneburg) 8 MVPs (6 gold, 2 silver)
