The intermediate phase of the 1st Bundesliga, which is played in two groups, is slowly coming to an end. This newly introduced intermediate phase of the competition consists of two groups – Group A, which includes the “Top 4” teams after the first part and Group B, which consists of teams that took positions from 5th to 8th place. The teams are fighting for the best starting positions and the “better” schedule of the quarterfinals of the playoffs.
So far, only one pair has been determined for the quarterfinals. Since last weekend, the Berlin Recycling Volleys, (undefeated so far), can no longer be pushed out of first place, not even mathematically. Since Helios Grizzlys Giesen are also fourth in Group B, the first quarterfinal pair is set (Berlin Recycling Volleys vs Helios Grizzlys Giesen). All other teams have the opportunity to improve their position in upcoming matches or defend their current place in the standings. In the group of lower-ranked teams (Group B), SVG Lüneburg need only one victory to secure first place, and thus supposedly the easiest opponent in the playoffs “from above”. They will try to do so today (February 20) against Netzhoppers KW-Bestensee.
Yesterday in the match of Group A (“top 4” teams) VfB Friedrichshafen after 5 sets defeated the host United Volleys Frankfurt with, 3-2 (20-25, 26-28, 25-17, 25-21, 15-13). The match was very interesting, but also marked by a large number of unforced errors, especially by the host United Volleys Frankfurt, whose players made 20 errors in attack and 14 errors on serve. In a match of the Group B played in Giesen, WWK Volleys Herrsching defeated Helios GRIZZLYS Giesen 3-1.
