VfB Friedrichshafen beat SVG Lüneburg 3-1 in the final of the 2022 German Men’s Volleyball Cup, while the women’s final was canceled at the last moment and postponed to a later date.
Record winners Friedrichshafen have won the Men’s DVV-Pokal for the 17th time. In the final of the 2022 edition of the competition in Mannheim, the coach Mark Lebedew’s team lived up to its role as favorite and beat Lüneburg 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 26-24, 25-23). After 2015 and 2019, it was the 3rd unsuccessful attempt for Lüneburg to win their first trophy, each time falling against Friedrichshafen. It was a balanced match, but Friedrichshafen retained the upper hand in crucial situations, turning their 2nd match point in the 4th set into victory. Argentine Luciano Vicentín was Friedrichshafen’s top scorer in the final with 16 points.
The women’s cup final between MTV Allianz Stuttgart and Dresdner SC, which was also planned for today in Mannheim, had been postponed. The latter had too many positive corona cases. A new date and venue haven’t yet been set.
