SC Potsdam won the 2022 German Women’s Volleyball Super Cup (Sparda-Bank Supercup) beating the country’s league and cup holders, also the match host, Allianz MTV Stuttgart.

The side from the state of Brandenburg wrote the club’s history by winning its first-ever title in any of the competitions. It was only five months ago that both teams faced each other in the Bundesliga final, and becoming the national league vice-champions was then the best-ever result of Potsdam. The revenge was therefore successful for the ladies commanded by Spaniard Guillermo Naranjo. Potsdam won the first two sets with 25-20 and 25-15. However, Stuttgart fought back in the third set and won it 25-20. The guests showed their dominance again in the fourth set: 25-16.

Super Cup was held in front of a record crowd for German women’s volleyball. More than 6,000 spectators attended Stuttgart’s Porsche-Arena. This didn’t only break the previous attendance record for the Super Cup but also set a new record for a women’s match in the country. The previous attendance record in the women’s volleyball match in Germany was 5,392 spectators in the fourth playoff final game of Bunesdila between Allianz MTV Stuttgart and Dresdner SC, in the same venue, on April 30, 2016. In the Super Cup, the best number so far was 5,796 fans who followed the men’s and women’s duels in 2017.
