The top-seed Olympiacos beat No.5 Kifisias in straight sets, partially 25-18, 25-21, 25-17, to confidently open the Volleyleague 17-18 playoff semifinals, trying to heal the wounds of losing the 2018 CEV Challenge Cup finals and national cup semifinals.
Olympiacos made 66% attack as a team while, individually, the German Marcus Böhme made 80% (8/10, blocked once) and Giorgos Petreas made 75% (9/12, 1 error). These two topped Piraeus team with 13 points apiece.
Still being under the impression of winning the national cup, the second-seed P.A.O.K. took a 1-0 lead against No.3 A.O. Foinikas Syros in the series of the semifinals, 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 23-25, 27-25).
Foinikas were close to extending the encounter to the tie-break but dropped a 17-13 in the fourth set. Thessaloniki side recorded 16 kill blocks as a team, with Panagiotis Pelekoudas making 5. Raphael Koumentakis scored 18 points for the winning side, while Croatian Fran Peterlin delivered 21 points for Foinikas.
Game 2 in both best-of-five semis is scheduled for April 27.
