ITA CUP M: Cup Final Four sold out!

by WoV

It’s time. The Del Monte Italian Cup is upon us, all eyes on Bologna, which will host the event on March 8-9. The show will take place in the PalaDozza arena, which had already been the center stage of the cup final in 1988 (Modena had defeated Bologna 3-1).

Cucine Lube Banca Marche Macerata – Sir Safety Perugia

First meeting between the two clubs in the cup, while they are tied with one win each this season in the league. Macerata is the current league leader but has had to face to major disappointments this season with the loss of the Super Cup against Trento and the elimination of the Champions League at the hands of Piacenza. They will be keen to make it into their third consecutive final and bring back a trophy they have not won since 2009 (3-1 vs Cuneo, team they knocked out in the quarters). Perugia arrive with the excitement of a team making its debut at this level after a great run in the league. It is currently third in the table and clearly not afraid of the big stage. It certainly does not shy away from showing its ambition.

Copra Elior Piacenza – Diatec Trentino

So many clashes at the highest level in the league but this will be the first ever in the Italian Cup. Piacenza had not reached this stage for five years despite two attempts in the quarter-finals. Captain Zlatanov, who had injured his ankle against Molfetta, is doubtful. Alessandro Fei could celebrate the 500 points scored in the Italian Cup. Trento made it to this stage by knocking off Modena. They have taken part in six final four, and won 3 of them. Coach Serniotti has had to deal with an unbelievable run of bad luck in terms of injuries: Sokolov, then Szabò, Birarelli. The club had to sign Kay Van Dijk a couple of weeks ago. But now everyone is on the way back, Sokolov and Birarelli will indeed travel with the squad.
