No.1 Sir Safety Conad Perugia conquered the PalaPanini, showing to be still alive in the playoff semi-final series of the 2021/22 Italian Men’s Volleyball Championship against No.4 Leo Shoes PerkinElmer Modena.
Perugia brought back the semi-finals of the 2021/22 SuperLega Credem Banca against Modena to their PalaBarton after winning Game 2 with a score of 3-1 and tying the series at 1-1. It was a truly hard-fought and spectacular match, just like the first one, with a lot of tension on the court, again. The absence of Yoandy Leal, who was disqualified for 4 matches after Game 1, certainly left Modena without some dangerous options in the attack. Referees had a difficult task to put participants under control today, being forced to react with 2 red cards (one to Perugia’s Roberto Russo and one to the member of the Modena staff – both causing a commotion from their respective benches) in the delicate moment of the 3rd set – at 19-19 (Modena trailed by 7 before that) – removing Earvin Ngapeth from the service line the moment he served an ace (one of his 4). That made the Frenchman furious and to the surprise of many, he wasn’t given even a yellow card for his gestures.
Perugia did a great job coming back in the opening set from 5-10, avoiding the match slipping out of their hands already at the beginning. American Matthew Anderson top-scored Perugia with 18 points. Argentine Sebastian Solé made 6 out of his team’s 18 blocks.
