Paola Egonu, fresh from being crowned World Champion, has extended her stay with Numia Vero Volley Milano until 2027 and will begin her first season as team captain.
The 26-year-old opposite, already a multi-time champion at the Olympics, World Championships, European Championships, and Volleyball Nations League, is stepping into a new leadership role after two seasons of record-breaking performances. Since joining the club in 2023, Egonu has scored more than 1,700 points across Serie A1, Coppa Italia, and the CEV Champions League, leading Milano to finals in every domestic competition and back-to-back podium finishes in Europe’s elite tournament.
Speaking after the announcement, Egonu said: “Wearing the captain’s armband is an honor and a great responsibility. I’m excited to start this new chapter with my teammates and I’m confident that with determination we’ll achieve big goals together.”
Club president Alessandra Marzari echoed the sentiment, calling Egonu’s appointment “a natural choice for someone with her talent, experience, and leadership qualities.”
With Egonu at the helm, Milano will rely on her scoring power, alongside key offensive contributors who finished last season among the top scorers in Serie A1, to push for an elusive Scudetto and another deep Champions League run.
