The year 2025 has turned into a historic milestone for Italian volleyball. Both the men’s and women’s national teams delivered unforgettable performances, dominating the international scene.
Women’s Team: A Perfect Journey
Led by coach Julio Velasco, the women’s team completed a flawless season, crowned by victories in both the Volleyball Nations League in Poland and the World Championship in Thailand.
Across the two competitions, the Azzurre played 22 matches and won them all, extending their winning streak to 36 consecutive matches. Out of 79 sets, they claimed 66, boasting an extraordinary 83% success rate.
Their dominance is reflected in the world rankings too, where Italy now sits firmly at No. 1 with 484.15 points, over 50 clear of Brazil.
Men’s Team: Strength and Consistency
The men’s team under Ferdinando De Giorgi also enjoyed a remarkable season. After taking silver at the Volleyball Nations League in China the Azzurri went on to confirm themselves as world champions in the Philippines.
In total, they secured 18 victories out of 22 matches, winning 59 of 82 sets for a strong 72% rate. Their consistency pushed Italy up to second place in the world rankings with 385.02 points, just five points shy of Poland.
A Record Season for Italy
Together, the two national teams brought to Italy staggering results: 40 wins in 44 matches, equal to a 91% overall success rate. Out of 161 sets played, they won 125, a dominant 78% share.
