Three games – three wins. Italy can be well pleased with their start at the FIVB World Cup in Japan, but this last win of Azzurri came much more difficult than expected. And they can blame Egypt for that…
The reigning African champions were pretty impressive at the start of this match, especially in attack. Ahmed Salah Abdelhay and Badawy Mohamed Moneim were unstoppable, and Italian defense looked simply powerless against two of them. The outcome – Egypt won the first set by 25:20, and they were so close to take the second one…
It was all tied at 24:24 and Egypt had a counterattack! However, Ahmed Elkotb’s spike went OUT and Italy had the set ball. Ivan Zaytsev finished the set with a strong spike – 26:24, all tied at 1-1 is sets.
It was like a huge burden fell off the shoulders of Italian players when they managed to tie the game. Led by incredible Zaytsev, who once again had numerous supersonic spikes, Azzurri won the third set without any problems, and then dominated the fourth one to complete a comeback.
Zaytsev finished the game with 24 points… Anyone still wonders why he should play as opposite?
