Spain, the silver medallists from last year’s FIVB Youth World Championship, made it to the final via a spectacular run and by sweeping all of their matches, while Italy suffered their only defeat in the tournament to hosts Poland.
The win qualified Italy for the 2013 FIVB Junior Men’s World Championship, joining Turkey who qualify as hosts. The remaining four European spots will be determined in a qualifying tournament next year.
The other teams to have qualified for the FIVB Junior Men’s World Championship are USA and Canada with one more team to be confirmed at the 2013 U20 Pan American Cup.
The Asian Junior Championship (September 27-October 5) and the South American Junior Championship (October 18-26) will serve as qualifiers for those regions, while qualification for the African Confederation is yet to be determined.
