Il Bisonte upset eight seed Südtirol Bolzano at home 3-0 (28-26, 25-21, 25-21) and came close to the finish line of the 8th Finals of the playoffs. According to the regulations in Italy, Il Bisonte will need to take only one set in the rematch, on April 3, to secure quarter-finals. Azerbaijani receiver Odina Bayramova and Raffaella Calloni scored 14 points each for the team from Florence, while Laura Melandri had as much as five blocks. U.S. international Michelle Bartsch had 19 for Bolzano.
Busto prevailed over No.10 Saugella Team Monza, who nearly avoided relegation, on the road 3-1 (27-25, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16). The win of ‘The Butterflies’ is even more significant since it was achieved without their best scorer Valentina Diouf (did not play as a measure of precaution), while Valentina Fiorin got injured in the third set. In the absence of Diouf, Dominican receiver Brayelin Martínez stood out with 25 points. American Haley Eckerman collected 17 on the other side.
