The winners out-served their opponents 7-1 and held a slight 4-3 edge in the service winners charts.
Jan Stokr led Trentino with 18 points followed by Matey Kaziyski with 16, including three aces. Juan Virgen topped Nuevo Leon with 12 points and Ismael Guerrero chipped in with 9 tallies.
One day after prevailing in a long battle against Al-Rayyan, Trentino came back with recharged energy and didn’t allow any break to their opponents during the first two sets.
Trentino Diatec led 8-4 relying on two spikes and an ace by Mitar Tzourits. They expanded the lead to 16-9 thanks to the impressive form of Jan Stokr who attacked consistently. The Nuevo Leon club had Juan Virgen and Samuel Cordova as their main producers in the opening frame but Trentino was able to build a comfortable margin. Two consecutive aces by Matey Kaziyski closed the first set 25-15.
The powerful spikes of Juantorena helped Trentino to take an 8-5 lead in the second set. The Italian club continued to dominate the rest of the set with powerful attacks. They improved to 16-7 with red-hot Stokr and Kaziyski scoring repeatedly. An ace by Sintini expanded the distance to double digits at 23-13. Cordova scored for Mexico but Stokr and Lanza finished the set 25-15.
Trentino took an 8-6 lead in the third set despite the effort of Mexico’s Virgen who was able to penetrate the tight defense with some good kills. Consecutive blocks by Guerrero and Virgen allowed Mexico to tie at 12 but Trentino recovered to stay in front 16-14 at the second TTO. Trentino capitalized on several errors of the Mexican side to increase the gap to five points at 22-17. Kaziyski scored his third ace of the match and the action closed with a terrific spike by no other than Kaziyski from the back court.
