Fipav explained that a Team Manager of Iranian National Team demanded of International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Supervisor to remove of a banner that two Iranian female fans held in the stands of the gymnasium in Pesaro or Iranian television will stop live broadcast of the game.
“After long talks and repeated attempts to remove the banner and their refusal to do so, the police unfortunately had to take the two activists away from the gymnasium. Fipav is very disappointed with the unfortunate episode that has nothing to do with the peaceful spirit of tolerance for which the world of volleyball is universally acknowledged,” Italian federation wrote.
The Fipav President, Pietro Bruno Cattaneo, also commented on the incident, saying he talked to some of FIVB members, being aware that Iranian NT takes part in the tournament, and they agreed that Iran should adapt to the conditions shared by all other federations.
“In each gymnasium, the opportunity for spectators to express themselves freely, obviously excluding offensive and discriminatory content, should be given. Therefore, we hope that such an episode will no longer be repeated, ensuring that all participants in volleyball events have the opportunity to be together in peace and friendship,” Cattaneo emphasized.
