In a start to the women’s Daido Life SV.League quarterfinals, Denso Airybees Koriyama and NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki scored commanding straight-set victories on home turf.
Playing in front of a home crowd at the newly upgraded Horaiya Koriyama Gymnasium, Denso overpowered Saitama Ageo Medics with a clean sweep (26-19, 25-17, 25-15). Brazilian opposite Rosamaria Montibeller led the way with 18 points. Colombian teammate Amanda Coneo contributed 13 points, helping Denso move one step closer to the semifinals. Ageo’s top scorer, Mako Shiina, managed 11 points in the defeat.
In Kawasaki, the defending champions NEC Red Rockets continued their title defense in style, brushing aside Toray Arrows Shiga in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-19). Brazilian standout Lorrayna Marys led all scorers with 21 points. Middle blockers Nichika Yamada and Haruyo Shimamura added 16 and 11 points respectively, while Yoshino Sato also chipped in 11. Sylvia Nwakalor of Italy led Toray’s effort with 11 points of her own.
Both Denso and NEC are now a win away from clinching a semifinal spot, with rematches set for Saturday.
