At V-League opening, Panasonic Panthers downed reigning champions Toyoda Gosei Trefuerza, while today, Sakai Blazers prevailed over hosts JT Thunders Hiroshima in tie-break 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-14, 15-13). Even a great performance of Dražen Luburić (who replaced Pole Bartosz Kurek in the last moment) did not help Thunders to achieve victory. Serbian opposite had 26 points but on the other side, Brazilian Wallace Martins who came to Blazers from Vôlei Brasil Krin/Campinas, scored 31.
JTEKT Stings, one of major favorites for the title in the Japanese Championship this season, started their campaign on the right foot. They defeated F.C. Tokyo Volleyball Team in straight sets thanks to 14 points from Bulgarian Matey Kaziyski. Dai Tezuka collected 21 in losing team.
Toray Arrows outplayed Suntory Sunbirds in four sets. Macedonian Nikola Gjorgiev continued where he left off last season. He was the best scorer of his team with 27 points. Thus, he annulled monstrous performance of Cuban Yadrián Escobar on the other side – 33 points.
