The championship final series, which stretched across three intense matches, saw all games decided in the full five sets – a first in the history of the competition.
Incheon Heungkuk Life Pink Spiders initially led the charge, mirroring their performance in the earlier games by leading up to the third set. However, despite a tight score of 23-23 in the fourth set, they couldn’t secure a win. Hyundai Engineering & Construction, backing Suwon Hyundai Hillstate, seized the opportunity to dominate the fifth set with a score of 15-7, completing a historic 3-0 series sweep where every match was decided in the full five sets.
This victory holds special significance for Suwon Hyundai Hillstate, as it comes after a period marked by COVID-19 restrictions that previously prevented them from contesting the championship finals twice, despite finishing first in the regular season. This year’s win not only breaks an 8-year championship drought but also marks a combined regular season and championship victory for the first time in 13 years.
Moma (Laëtitia Moma Bassoko) was a standout player throughout the series, contributing significantly to her team’s success, including a remarkable 38 points in the third match alone. Her exceptional performance earned her the championship’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) title, chosen overwhelmingly by the press. In her victory speech, Moma expressed her joy and pride in winning the championship and extended her gratitude towards Incheon Heungkuk Life Pink Spiders for their commendable performance throughout the series.
