PAC M: Mexico delighted home crowd and went to finals

Mexico classified to its second final in the history of the Men’s Pan American Cup after defeating Argentina 3-1 (25-21, 27-25, 12-25 y 25-21).

Mexico celebrating the victory over Argentineans

The first time when the host team classified to a final was in 2007 when Mexico won the gold medal against Puerto Rico. With this result, Mexico clinches a berth in the qualifying tournament to the FIVB World League.

Jesus Valdes scored 18 points, Tomas Aguilera 13 and Daniel Vargas 11 for the local team. On the Argentinean side Ivan Postemsky finished with 13, while Nicolas Mendez and Gustavo Vaca scored 12 apiece.

“We are a team in formation, our goal is to go to the U23 World Championship in the best shape ever, congratulations to Mexico,” said Juan Ignacio Finolli, captain of Argentina.

“In volleyball mind strength, clarity and confidence are very important, this match was so intense, I want to congratulate Mexico,” stated Alejandro Grossi, coach of Argentina.

“We spent very difficult moments. We faced a very difficult rival with good technique and very well disciplined. Thanks god we did it”, Mexican captain Alejandro Quiñones remarked.

“We are very happy for this result and dreamed about qualifying to the final. We faced a team very well prepared, fortunately things were right,” said Sergio Hernandez, coach of Mexico.
