NORCECA W: No surprises on the first day of the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championships

On the opening day of the NORCECA Women's Continental Championships in Puerto Rico, all the top-ranked teams had no complications in their matches.

In pool A, Puerto Rico beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-13) and Canada opened the event by defeating Cuba 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14).

In pool B, United States defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-7) and Dominican Republic defeated Mexico 3-0 (26-24, 25-11, 25-14). 

 

Canada – Cuba 3-1

Canada won the opening match of the NORCECA Women’s Continental Championships against Cuba 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14). Alexa Gray scored 21 points for Canada and Kiera Van Ryk added 20.  Melanies Arcia and Ivy May Vila each scored 10 points for Cuba. 

 

United States – Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 

The United States defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-7) for their first victory. Hannah Tapp and Tori Dixon led USA’s scorers with 11 points each and Karsta Lowe added 10. 

 

Dominican Republic – Mexico 3-0 

Dominican Republic defeated Mexico 3-0 (26-24, 25-11, 25-14). Isabel Peña and Bethania De La Cruz were the top scorers for Dominican Republic with 14 points each. On the Mexico side, the top scorer was Andrea Rangel with 14 points. 

 

Puerto Rico – Costa Rica 3-0 

Puerto Rico defeated Costa Rica 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-13) in their pool A opening game. Puerto Rican Marie Victoria and Shirley Ferrer each scored 8 points, while Legna Hernández added 6 points each. For Costa Rica, Tamara Espinoza scored 6 points.


Canada – Cuba 3-1 (25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 25-14)

United States – Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-7)

Dominican Republic – Mexico 3-0 (26-24, 25-11, 25-14)

Puerto Rico – Costa Rica 3-0 (25-8, 25-14, 25-13
