The Dominican Republic convincingly finished their 2020 NORCECA Women’s Olympic Qualifier campaign at home in Santo Domingo, sealing a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics. In a direct duel for a spot in the Japanese capital, the “Las Reinas del Caribe” wrecked Puerto Rico (3-0: 25-20, 25-18, 25-15) in front of a sellout crowd at the Sports Palace Virgilio Travieso Soto (nearly 9,000 spectators).
Dominican Bethania De La Cruz, selected the MVP of the tournament, was the top scorer of her team with 16 points, while Lisvel Eve contributed with 5 kill blocks in the victory. Daly Santana topped the Puerto Rican offense with 11 points. It will be the 3rd appearance for the Dominican Republic at the Olympics with previous ones in the 2004 Athens and the 2012 London.
