Puerto Rico secured the quarterfinals after defeating Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-18) at the NORCECA Continental Championship.
Puerto Rico finished the group stage with 2 wins and 1 loss. They have to wait for the result of the match between Mexico and Canada in order to know the final ranking and position for the quarterfinals.
Pelegrin Vargas was Puerto Rico’s top scorer with 11 points, while Gabriel García added 10. Trinidad and Tobago’s top scorer was Daynte Stewart with 14 points.
Oswald Antonetti, Head Coach of Puerto Rico: “Once we held some advantage the team loosened, yesterday was an emotional and complicated performance for us but we grew as a group, which is what we’re looking for in a competition. We are optimistic for the next round; these guys are a great group”.
