NORCECA Women’s Continental Championship Set for Showdown in Quebec

The stage is set in Quebec, Canada, for the 2023 NORCECA Senior Women’s Volleyball Continental Championship. The action kicks off on August 29 and will run until September 3 at the Amphithéâtre Desjardins-Université Laval. The championship will feature seven of the most elite women’s national volleyball teams, including defending Olympic champions the United States and the current NORCECA champions, the Dominican Republic. Other participating nations include Cuba, Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and host country Canada.

Teams have been divided into two groups for the initial round-robin phase. Pool A comprises Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, while Pool B includes Cuba, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and the United States. After three days of intense pool-play, the winners from each group will automatically qualify for the semifinals, while the teams finishing second and third will face off in the quarterfinals.

For fans unable to attend in person, the championship will be livestreamed on the CBC Sports.

The tournament has a rich history, with Cuba leading the all-time list with an impressive 13 titles, seven silver, and two bronze medals. Not far behind, the United States has earned eight gold, 12 silver, and three bronze medals. The reigning champions, the Dominican Republic, have won the last two editions (2021, 2019) and hold three gold, three silver, and five bronze medals in total.
