This victory marks Mexico’s second consecutive five-set match, improving their record to 3-1, tying with Colombia and the Dominican Republic in Pool A. Peru now holds a 1-3 record.
Mexico’s victory was fueled by their superior attacking game, racking up 74 attacks compared to Peru’s 50. They also led in serving with 4 aces to Peru’s 3. Peru, however, dominated in blocking with 14 blocks versus Mexico’s 10. The match was characterized by a high error count, with Mexico capitalizing on 40 errors from Peru, while Mexico themselves contributed 22 errors.
Grecia Castro led Mexico with an impressive 27 points, including 25 attacks, one block, and one ace. Uxue Guereca added 19 points, while Jocelyn Urías contributed 16 points with 12 attacks and 4 blocks. Karina Flores rounded out the top performers with 15 points.
For Peru, Karina Ortíz was the standout with 19 points, supported by Ysabella Sánchez’s 14 points. Kiara Montes and Diana De La Peña also made significant contributions, with De La Peña notching a match-high 6 blocks.
In other tournament action, Argentina maintained their unbeaten run with a commanding 3-0 win over Cuba, and Puerto Rico narrowly defeated Chile 3-2 in a tense encounter. Dominican Republic secured a win over Colombia, and Canada defeated Suriname to improve their standing in Pool A. The United States continued their perfect streak, overpowering Costa Rica with a 3-0 victory.
