PAC W: Sixth title for USA, Carlini MVP

For the sixth time in the history of Pan American Cup, USA finished as the winners of the competition.

At the XVII edition of the Pan American Cup USA have defended the title from the last year and just like in the past season they defeated the Dominican Republic. The result was 0-2 for the host team but at the end, USA won with 3-2 (24-26, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-8).

The winners established a solid defense at the net which allowed them to score 17 blocks, including seven by Chiaka Ogbogu. Aiyana Whitney (27) and Ogbogu (21) led the American attack while Simone Lee and Haleigh Washington added 15 and 14 in the triumph. Brayelin Elizabeth Martinez had 21 points as the best Dominican scorer followed by Gaila Gonzalez Lopez with 16 and Yonkaira Peña Isabel with 13.

In the match for the third place, Canada won their second medal ever at Pan American Cup. For the bronze, they defeated Brazil with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-21). Kiera Van Ryk and Alexa Gray spearheaded Canada with 18 and 12 points, while Bruna Honorio da Silva was the only Brazilian player who reached double digits in the scoring charts.

For 11th place: Costa Rica – Trinidad & Tobago 0-3 (24-26, 18-25, 16-25)

For 9th place: Argentina – Mexico 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19)

For 7th place: Cuba – Peru 3-1 (25-23, 38-40, 25-11, 25-22)

For 5th place: Colombia – Puerto Rico 3-2 (25-15, 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-12)

For 3rd place: Brazil – Canada 0-3 (19-25, 20-25, 21-25)

Final: Dominican Republic – USA 2-3 (26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 19-25, 8-15).
